Surely he hath borne our griefs

March 30, 2010

I present you with a collection of very pleasant performances of Händels Messiah. The best of the lot must be  Coro Via Magna. The choir is beautifully balanced, with a powerful and tone-rich “klang”. The sad thing is that very few people enjoy this deeply polished choir. Congrats to the Choirmaster Oscar Gershensohn.

Surely he hath borne our griefs (coro)
And with his stripes we are healed (coro)
All we like sheep have gone astray (coro)

And keeping to the same geographical region of Europe, the same country …

He shall purify
Interpreted by the Orquesta de Extremadura con el Coro de la Fundación Orquesta de Extremadura

And yet again in the same country

Coro Via Magna y Orquesta de la Capilla Real. (The Choir Via Magna and the the Orchestra of the Royal Chapel) sing
Worthy is the Lamb and Amen
with grace and power. All that moving around is distracting, though. How can I say this nicely … too much individualism for a choir.

The same choir also presented
And the glory of the Lord.

Lift up your heads

And just not to leave the English boys choir out I insert the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge Academy of Ancient Music under the skilled hand of Choirmaster Stephen Cleobury. The venue does not detract from the choral presentation.

And he shall purify

Finally, the Hallelujah Chorus
